Charter Services
I provide all of the tackle needed for a fun filled day of fishing. I have a large cooler box on the boat, which I keep filled with water and light snacks. You will need to bring your lunch and any other beverages. I will also provide PFD's (personal floatation device) for all customers. Children under 18 will be required to wear their PFD at all times. Please dress appropriately for the weather. I keep extra jackets and rain gear on the boat, but the last thing I want is for you to be uncomfortable. I also keep a few empty dry bags for those items you need keep dry. I encourage you to bring your camera, but be certain I will have one to document your catch. You will also need a freshwater fishing license if we are fishing in those waters. You can purchase one here at VGIF. Saltwater license is covered for the boat.

Note about bathrooms. Depending on the river and where we may be fishing, public restrooms may not be available. I will do my best to accommodate your needs, especially the ladies. Being a father of two girls has taught me well.

Your Captain
My name is Ralph Magee, Jr. I grew up in Hanover County, VA and have lived here almost my entire life. I'm married to my wife Anne and we have two wonderful daughters, Kendall and Anna. As a child, I was introduced to fishing by my father Ralph Sr, and uncle Billy Wright. Some of my earliest memories are of camping and fishing trips with them throughout our fine state. As the year progressed, the student became the teacher and now I take them fishing every chance I get. (more...)

Boat and Equipment
I fish from 21.5 foot bay boat made by KenCraft, named "Tide Up". This boat provides exceptional functionality. With the motor trimmed up, the boat drafts less than a foot of water, yet handles 2 to 4 foot chop in the bay. The hull design allows me to navigate any fishing condition that may be found inland as well allowed me to go as far as 20 miles offshore.

"Tide Up" is equipped with top of the line electronics and GPS from Humminbird, featuring side-scan and down imagining sonar. If you have not experienced what this technology can do for your fishing, let me show you what you are missing.

For casting opportunities, I use a 24 volt Minn Kota digital trolling motor with 80lbs thrust and equipped with remote control. This allows me to position my clients in the optimal casting lanes from anywhere on the boat. Casting decks in the front and back of the boat allow amply room for several anglers. "Tide Up" is also equipped with two livewells to keep your catch alive or support live bait. I also carry US Coast Guard approved gear and safety equipment. For hot summer days and on photo tours I add a Bimini top to provide some solace from the sun. When rigged for catfishing, I can spread up to 12 rods easily. Finally, "Tide Up" is powered by 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke engine, which produces a top speed of 40mph and comfortable cruising speed of 30mph.
